Web Summit Lisbon is scheduled for 9–12 November 2026. The official 2026 page names MEO Arena in Lisbon, the schedule now lists opening-night activity on 9 November, and the tracks page lists 17 tracks across the four-day event. Use the ticket and event app for the exact hall or stage attached to each activity as the programme develops.
Before buying a ticket, identify your role. A startup founder, investor, developer, job-seeker, exhibitor and general attendee will find value in different parts of the event. Use the registration path designed for the role you can accurately demonstrate.
Read the ticket conditions, not only the sales page
Confirm the dates covered, access level, transfer or refund position, tax treatment and any programme requiring separate approval. Some opportunities for startups, media, speakers or investors may involve eligibility checks. Submitting interest is not the same as receiving acceptance.
Buy through the official Web Summit channel. Keep account access and confirmation under your control, and use your passport name where identity matching is required. Treat unsolicited discount links and requests for login credentials with caution.
Make your purpose specific enough to guide four days
Write two outcomes you can evaluate after the event. “Meet investors” is broad; “obtain feedback from investors who understand regulated health technology and identify whether a seed round is realistic” is more useful. The objective should fit the organisation’s current stage rather than the image it hopes to project.
Select programme tracks after setting the objective. Save a small number of essential sessions and leave room for meetings. Watching every famous speaker can be enjoyable, but it may not justify an international business trip if no decision or useful relationship follows.
Prepare a truthful introduction
A concise introduction should explain who you are, what you work on and why the other person’s perspective is relevant. Do not lead with invented traction, vague superlatives or partnerships still under discussion. A clear limitation often creates a better conversation than an inflated pitch.
Prepare two versions: a short spoken introduction and a one-page or mobile-friendly reference. Include a reliable contact method. If you are seeking employment, tailor your portfolio or CV to the roles and companies actually present rather than distributing the same document everywhere.
Use the app and meeting tools carefully
Official networking tools can help filter a large attendee community. Complete the profile accurately and write meeting requests that name a relevant reason. Generic mass invitations may fill the inbox while producing few worthwhile meetings.
Protect sensitive information. A first meeting usually does not require source code, customer lists, passport copies or confidential financial documents. Confirm a person’s organisation through a known channel before moving a conversation toward payments, contracts or account access.
Choose accommodation for the event journey
Compare accommodation by the journey to MEO Arena and by any meetings you intend to attend elsewhere in Lisbon. Do not judge a hotel only by straight-line distance: check the actual public-transport or taxi route at event hours. November demand around the event can affect rates, so read cancellation terms and confirm exactly which nights you need before paying.
Allow for queues, crowded transport and late programme changes. Keep important addresses and booking details offline. Comfortable footwear, a charging plan and a simple meeting schedule often matter more than carrying extensive promotional materials.
Check Portugal and Schengen entry requirements
Portugal participates in the Schengen area. Whether you need a short-stay visa depends on nationality and other circumstances. Use the Portuguese authority or competent consulate for the application location and the European Commission for the general framework.
An event ticket or acceptance email does not guarantee a visa. Where an application is required, keep the purpose, dates, accommodation, funding and return plans consistent. Apply within the permitted window and avoid unnecessary non-refundable bookings while a decision is outstanding.
Build the true cost before deciding to attend
Add ticket price, tax, flights, visa charges where relevant, accommodation, airport transfer, city transport, meals, connectivity, insurance and a reserve. Startup or exhibitor participation may introduce equipment, shipping, printing or staffing costs.
Compare the total with a remote alternative. If the purpose can be met through four online meetings, travel may not be justified. If the event concentrates customers, partners and market information that would otherwise take months to reach, the calculation may be different.
Follow up with context
At the end of each day, attach a reason and next step to every important contact. Send promised material while the conversation can still be remembered, but do not share confidential documents merely to appear responsive.
After returning, review the objectives, cost and results. Count decisions improved, qualified conversations and agreed actions—not badge scans or social-media photographs. Keep a note of what did not work so another conference trip can be planned more intelligently.
